Product: Calcium Ammonium Nitrate (CAN)

Calcium Ammonium Nitrate (CAN) is an effective, fast-acting fertilizer that supplies plants with both nitrogen and calcium, essential nutrients for healthy growth. This fertilizer improves root development, strengthens plant cell walls, and enhances fruit and flower quality. Suitable for all soil types, CAN also helps reduce soil acidity, promoting better nutrient availability for plants. It’s an excellent choice for field crops, horticulture, and greenhouse farming.

CAN contains 27% nitrogen, 2.4% magnesium and 5.3% calcium as calcium magnesium carbonate (dolomite). It consists of dust-free, white free-flowing granules.

Why Use Calcium Ammonium Nitrate (CAN)
Can be considered as near-neutral in its effect on soil pH
For use on perennial fruit crops (where soil incorporation of lime is difficult)
Contains equal parts of fast acting nitrate-nitrogen and longer lasting ammonium-nitrogen

Calcium Ammonium Nitrate can be considered as near-neutral in its effect on soil pH – and therefore can be used on soils that have a low pH without lowering further. This also means it is most suitable for using on perennial fruit crops (where soil incorporation of lime is normally difficult to achieve).

CAN is a nitrogen fertiliser which contains equal parts of fast acting nitrate-nitrogen and longer lasting ammonium-nitrogen.  This ensures a more continuous nitrogen supply to the crop and thus better efficiency of use, and also makes it suitable for unseasonal application during summer or winter.

Application:
CAN is commonly used on fruit, process and vegetable crops.
CAN can be applied in base dressings and side dressings, but the actual rates will depend on the farm type, the region and the season.  It is most beneficial however when split applied (where possible) on a 4 – 6 weekly basis to ensure a continuous nitrogen supply.

Actual spreading rates will vary according to farm type, climate, productivity, soil type and crop type.  Soil testing and fertiliser plans are available to ensure you use the right product at the correct rate.  Call our Customer Centre for information.

Volatilisation of nitrogen from CAN is negligible, therefore the timing of the applications is flexible.

As with most solid fertilisers, can be stored over a season as long as it is kept in a cool, dry, well ventilated area. Store bags in a dry place ensuring they are tightly sealed.
